Caroline Goddard is an editorial, documentary, and event photographer based in Portland, Maine and Newport, Rhode Island. Her work investigates the humanism and place-based identity of vernacular space, cultural landscapes and stories of intentional living.
A native of Rhode Island, she received her B.A. in Visual Art from Brown University in 2010. In 2013, she co-authored the book Fly Rails and Flying Jibs: Coasting Schooner Photographs by Robert H.I. Goddard (Mystic Seaport Press), for which she photographed and digitally restored her grandfather’s collection of medium format negatives of commercial freight sailboats in New England. She went on to study fine art photography and printing at the Aegean Center for Fine Arts in Paros, Greece, and in 2015, she interned as a photographer, French copy translator and English copy editor for the Musée national Picasso-Paris.
In addition to her background in photography, Caroline has extensive experience in publishing and online content marketing. She has held roles as a contributing writer, magazine and blog editor, stylist, and social media manager at a variety of media companies and publications, including Lighthouse Media Solutions (formerly Lighthouse Publications), Southern New England Weddings, The Newport Mercury, Puddingstone Post and Kain Defoe Communications, all of which have shaped her understanding of good photography from a photo editor’s perspective. As a result, she is passionate about working with museums, cultural non-profits, small businesses and start-ups to develop a photographic branding narrative that can be leveraged for more media exposure.
Caroline is available for editorial, documentary, wedding and event photography in Rhode Island, Maine, and beyond. Select works are also available for purchase.
